Configuring Xwin32

Xwin32 is a tool to connect to the ENS Linux server from any windows machine. Once connected, it seems you turned your windows box into a linux box.

With Windows XP, since your profile is stored locally, you will need to configure the client each time you use a different machine.

The following explanations are for Xwin32 version 5.1. To configure the client, follow the following steps:
  1. go to Start → All Programs → X-Win32 5.1 → X-Config
  2. click on Add
  3. choose XDMCP
  4. fill the form with the following information:
    • Session Name: Linux
    • XDMCP: Query
    • Host name: linux.ens.utulsa.edu
    • in the session Flags, choose Switch to Single in the combo box.
  5. click on Save then OK.
To run the client:
  1. go to Start → All Programs → X-Win32 5.1 → X-Win32. This create a blue X on the program tray (bottom right of the screen). Click on it, then click on the session name 'Linux'.
  2. Enter the login and password for the ENS account.
  3. Once you are done: log out from linux (do NOT close the X-Win 32 application: not logging out cleanly may cause problems for future use).
