Karim Lidouh (Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium) visiting Vincent Mousseau (Ecole Centrale Paris, France)
Dates: 01/02/2011 - 28/02/2011

Thanks to the COST Action, I was able to visit Prof. Vincent Mousseau in the Laboratoire Génie Industriel (LGI) at the Ecole Centrale de Paris from Feb. 1, 2011 till Feb. 28, 2011.

By doing so I benefitted from his experience in directing the thesis of a fellow researcher with a subject similar to mine: Salem Chakhar. My thesis subject consists in finding ways to integrate multicriteria methods and tools in geographical information systems. In order to develop tools that would ease the use of such methods in this particular context, Vincent encouraged me to explore several tracks I hadn't considered up till now. One of those was the possibility to elicit preferences by disaggregating outranking scores. This technique, applied to the PROMETHEE methodology, leads to several questions and difficulties that have seldom been studied during the existence of these methods. I now plan to study some of the elicitation procedures that have been used up till now to determine if some of them could help solve some of the difficulties encountered in the several types of spatial decision problems.

In the kinds of applications that I study, it is of the utmost importance for the decision maker to be presented with intuitive ways to build his decision model and this STSM definitely contributed to making me discover some of them. Furthermore, I had the chance to meet Roman Slowinski, editor of EJOR and to present my research in front of Vincent's team during a seminar (the abstract and slides of this presentation are available on the LGI website: http://www.lgi.ecp.fr/pmwiki.php/Actualites/AbstractLidouh2011-02-24 ).
