Aristotelis Giannakos passed away

It is with great sadness that we announce the
passing of an exceptional friend and colleague, Aristotelis (Telis)
Giannakos, who was a long-time associate researcher at
LAMSADE.

Telis was a highly esteemed scientist in the fields of
theoretical computer science and operational research. After completing
his secondary education at the Varvákeion School in Athens, he became
an electrical engineer at the National Technical University of
Athens. Telis then came to Paris, where he obtained his DEA (Master's degree) in
Computer Science at the University of Paris Sud (Orsay) and defended his
doctoral thesis under the joint supervision of Jean-Claude König and
Alix Munier. He taught at the University of Picardie - Jules Verne in
Amiens and at the University of New Caledonia in Nouméa.

At the same time, Telis was a member of the Greek Communist Party, endowed with
profound and unprejudiced political thinking and remarkable ethics.

He left us too soon; he still had much to contribute to both
computer science and contemporary political thought.

He was an open and cheerful man, highly cultured and very
open-minded. Those who had the good fortune to know him
particularly enjoyed his company and discussions
with him. We will always remember him with great affection
and emotion.

"Il y a un manque de pensée à long terme, au-delà du quotidien. Il y a des éléments qui permettent de prédire, de budgétiser les fonds pour que, sur de longues années, on mutualise les risques", fait valoir Myriam Merad, chercheuse du CNRS au Laboratoire d'analyse et modélisation de systèmes pour l'aide à la décision. "C'est un système assurantiel à repenser, et ce n'est pas qu'un problème scientifique et technique, mais bien politique."
