Something about Vietri and the Amalfi Coast…

The Costiera Amalfitana is located between the Sorrento peninsula and Salerno. It has been inscribed in the World Heritage List maintained by UNESCO. It is an area of great natural beauty and diversity, intensively populated since the Early Middle Ages.

Coming from Salerno, Vietri sul Mare is the first town of the coast. With its beaches and attractions like the 17th century Church of St Giovanni Battista, it a popular touristic destination. The town is internationally famous for its production of ceramics, which dates back to the 15th century.

Salerno and UNISA

Salerno is the capital of the province of the same name, and lies at about 50km southeast of Naples. Among its many attractions, we recall the beautiful promenade of Lungomare Trieste, the Castello di Arechi, a massive castle which dominates the city, the wonderful Duomo (Salerno Cathedral), dedicated to St. Matthew, and the historical city center, which is among the best maintained in Italy and reveals the medieval heart of the city.

Salerno hosted the oldest university of Europe, the Schola Medica Salernitana, becoming a crucial center of learning, culture and arts during the Early Middle Ages.
Today, its spirit lives on in the University of Salerno, which in 1988 moved from the city centre to the town of Fisciano. With its over 39000 students, 10 faculties and its large and modern campus, UNISA ranks among the most important universities in Southern Italy.
